Vancouver, April 16, 2025 – Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver stands in strong support of the Vancouver Police Department.
In our community’s most vulnerable moments, the Vancouver Police Department has shown up — with integrity, with courage, and with a steadfast commitment to our safety. Time and again, they have stood beside us in the face of tragedy and placed themselves between our community members and virulent protestors. Their presence has brought reassurance and protection when we’ve needed it most.
We recognize how vital the police are to the fabric of our city and to the well-being of our community. We are deeply grateful for their continued support, and we do not take for granted the fact that they risk their lives each day in service to others.
The abhorrent comments made by newly elected City Councillor Sean Orr referring to the VPD are not only unacceptable, they are also dangerous. They do not reflect the values of a city that strives to be safe, inclusive, and respectful for all.
Hateful rhetoric directed at law enforcement has no place in our civic discourse. We call on other vulnerable communities to join us in standing up for the police who stand up for all of us. We expect better from those elected to lead, and we urge the City Council to ensure that every councillor fosters unity, not division.
We need representatives who build bridges — not those who stoke hatred.
