Send Kids to Camp with the Essentials—and a Herschel Backpack!

We know that young people in our community want to make an impact. That is why we have created an opportunity for young adults not just to support community recovery, but to help a summer camper directly. When a young adult gives $54 to the Community Recovery Fund, we will add to their impact by giving a child a backpack full of camp essentials, thanks to generous support from Herschel Supply Co. and Price Waterhouse Cooper (PWC).

More Families Need Camperships

Approximately one in five Jewish children live in poverty, right here in our community. In any given year, more than 100 families need camperships for their children, which are funded through the Federation Annual Campaign. Not only does summer camp strengthen children’s Jewish identity and forge lifelong friendships, it is a key contributor to the mental health of children and youth. With the impact of the pandemic, camps are reporting a significant increase in the number of requests for camperships and the level of financial assistance that families require.

Young Adults Want to Make a Difference

Many young adults have had the privilege of the Jewish camp experience and continue feel the long-term impact it has had on shaping who you are today. This is an opportunity to help provide that same formative experience for our youngest community members.

Attending Camp Gan Israel at a young age gave me the opportunity to grow in my Jewish values and influenced my current leadership role in the community. I value my experiences at CGI and think it is important to help make camp accessible to other campers. Being a part of this campaign provided me the opportunity to ensure that children in our community are able to benefit from attending camp during their formative years. – David Rosengarten, Camp Gan Israel Alumnus
