Teen Bullying to be Discussed at Philosophers’ Cafe

Over the past few years, there have been a number of high profile incidents involving youth and bullying, including the recent and very tragic cases of Amanda Todd and Rehtaeh Parsons. Despite growing awareness of the issues, prevention programs in schools, and community education for parents and youths, teen bullying remains a significant concern. Our community has also been grappling with the issue and has initiated a number of programs and events in response.

In collaboration with the Jewish Historical Society and the Jewish Community Centre, Jewish Federation will be hosting a Philosophers’ Café on the topic. Titled: Fact or Fantasy: Is teen bullying really so bad?, the event will create a safe space for open dialogue, as well as an opportunity to present a variety of voices and perspectives on the topic of teen bullying. Café moderators will include Rabbi Avraham Feigelstock, who will speak about Torah perspectives on bullying, and Dr. Brenda Morrison, director of the SFU of Centre for Restorative Justice, who will speak about the importance of community involvement to address bullying.
