Jewish Day Camp in the Tri-Cities

For the second year in a row, the JCC of Vancouver’s Camp Shalom, in partnership with Jewish Federation’s Connect Me In initiative, will operate its Outreach camp to serve families living in the Tri-Cities. We are grateful to the Diamond family for their financial support of this program.

Attending Jewish summer camp is a key experience in children’s development of a strong Jewish identity. As our local Jewish community becomes increasingly spread out geographically, more and more families struggle to access Jewish programs located far from where they live. As Jewish Federation continues to work toward our 2020 Strategic Priorities, we’re proud to support programming in the emerging Jewish communities outside of Vancouver to foster a connection to Jewish life for individuals and families who live a great distance from most community infrastructure.

The full-day camp for children aged five to 13 will be held at the Burquest Jewish Community Centre in Coquitlam, and will run the week of August 20-24th. Programming will feature field trips around the city as well as Jewish and Israeli content provided by our shinshinim (teen emissaries from Israel) and Connect Me In, as well as by Camp Shalom staff.

Activities will include swimming, sports, field trips and a special Shabbat program.

Connect Me In provides programming in the regional communities throughout the year, and will work to build on relationships and connections forged during Camp Shalom Outreach.

Camp registration is open through the JCC. Contact Orly Naim, Jewish Federation's manager, community development, for further information.
