Federation Welcomes New Director of Security

Federation’s Community Security Advisory Committee is very pleased to welcome Daniel Heydenrych to the new role of Director of Security for our community.

Daniel will work with local Jewish organizations, law enforcement agencies, and other strategic partners to focus on three key priority areas:

  • Ensuring the ongoing safety of our community and its institutions;
  • Facilitating the delivery of training and educational workshops to ensure key community organizations and their leadership stay abreast of best practices and trends related to security;
  • Cultivating a volunteer network to help enhance the security preparedness of local institutions, especially around major community events.

Daniel brings a wealth of security experience gained over 20 years as a soldier and officer with the British Army, and as a security risk manager in developing and post-conflict countries under the auspices of an international non-governmental organization. Daniel was head of security at Oakridge Shopping Centre, and most recently served as the Director of Security and Safety for the Trump Tower in Vancouver.

The Director of Security position was created in response to our Jewish Federation’s 2020 Strategic Priorities, in which we identified community security as a key area of opportunity for strategic investment. A security audit recommended by Federation’s Community Security Committee identified the need for a security professional to spearhead and manage security initiatives community-wide and ensure a proactive approach to security and emergency preparedness.

In the short time that Daniel has been in the position, he has met with over 20 communal organizations, worked with many of these organizations to prepare proposals for federal government funding, and strengthened our contacts in local law enforcement.
