Choices Event to Highlight Hope in Disaster

This year’s Choices event is right around the corner! Join us on Sunday, October 30th as we celebrate women’s impact in our community and hear from Talia Levanon, an inspiring woman who is strengthening communities  all over the world.

Speaking from Global Experience
Talia Levanon is the director of the Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC), a network of organizations dedicated to creating a continuum of care for communities recovering from the trauma of natural disasters and terror attacks. When disaster strikes across the globe, Israeli organizations respond quickly with aid and support. But after wounds have been healed and hungry bellies filled, a harder job begins: treating emotional and psychological injuries. This is when ITC steps in, providing ongoing psycho-social care and training local leaders to help residents process the tragedy, gain resilience, and move forward with their lives.

Looking back at her life, Talia Levanon could say she started training in international relations as a little girl. Born in Switzerland, she grew up in Nigeria and completed her post-secondary education in Israel. Her first work with the wounded and bereaved was as a casualty officer in the Israeli army. Years later, while pregnant with her third child, she began studying social work and earned her MSW from Bar Ilan University. Now, with over 30 years experience in international trauma care and bereavement, Talia has represented Israel to the United Nations in forums dedicated to victims of terror and worked with the WHO, UNICEF, and CDC on several post-disaster and preparedness projects. We look forward to hearing her speak about the ITC’s important work in Israel and around the world.
