Schara Tzedeck is the largest and most established Orthodox synagogue in Western Canada and has been a cornerstone of the Vancouver Jewish Community for over 116 years. We have a membership base of over 500 families, beautiful and modernized facilities including banquet halls, kitchens and a mikvah, and supportive and engaged staff.

The Opportunity - We are seeking a Director of Women’s Education and Programs who will work together with our rabbinic leadership and staff to engage our membership and promote greater commitment to Judaism, Halacha, Jewish traditions and practice, and Israel.

The Director of Women’s Education and Programs is a dynamic individual who will serve as a role model for Modern Orthodox women through dialogue, education, and building personal relationships with a goal to inspire and engage the women in our community.

Goals
• Support our members to feel engaged, empowered, and a valued part of the community, and to make Judaism relevant to their lives.
• Model modern Orthodoxy through dialogue, education, and personal involvement to inspire and engage women to develop greater knowledge and understanding of Judaism, Halacha, Jewish traditions and practice.
• Increase engagement with women of all ages and build constructive and reciprocal relationships with existing and prospective members.

Responsibilities:
• Work with synagogue staff and volunteers to develop a budget for and manage the Women’s program
• Create and manage a Women’s Torah and Jewish Education Committee
• Create and deliver Shiurim according to a schedule agreed to with the Rabbis and Education Committee
• Offer religious guidance to female members of the community including Bat Mitzvah and teens
• Provide guidance and spiritual support to brides, including education on Taharat Hamishpacha and mikvah in consultation with and guidance from the Senior Rabbi
• Organize and partner in the delivery of religious and educational events
• Attend shul services on Shabbat and Yom Tov on a regular basis, offering guidance and a welcoming face to regular attendees irrespective of their level of observance
• If hired as part of a couple, provide hospitality to members of the community, particularly on Shabbat, Yom Tov and other festivals
• Visit sick and bereaved members of the community – where appropriate
• Any other tasks that would reasonably be expected of an active and committed Rebbetzin/ Director of Women’s Education and Programs in the mainstream or Modern Orthodox Diaspora community

• Training in teaching Taharas Hamishpacha to Kallahs and women who are looking to increase their observance
• The ability and knowledge to engage Jewish women in Jewish learning
• Innovative approach to developing programs
• Charismatic, welcoming demeanor
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Knowledgeable in Modern Orthodox practices and halacha
