Vancouver, February 18, 2025

Over the weekend, we were informed of an incident in the Douglas Park area in which an individual approached two community members' homes and directed hateful, antisemitic remarks at their families.

This is the second time this individual has targeted community members in the area. The Vancouver Police Department Hate Crimes Unit is investigating, and our community security team, led by Director Daniel Heydenrych and Associate Director Mike Foster, is providing support to the families.

Security is our collective responsibility, and as we think ahead to Passover and other times when our community will gather, we underscore the importance of maintaining a high level of awareness and promptly reporting any concerns.

If you see something, say something.
It is important to report any acts of antisemitism that you have personally experienced, to measure and combat antisemitism in Canada. Only report incidents which you have directly experienced in order to ensure the credibility of the reporting.

  • If you are in immediate danger or a crime is in progress, call 911.
  • If there is no immediate safety risk, contact your local police non-emergency line (see list by location here).
  • File an incident report with Jewish Federation.
  • Report to the Provincial Racist Incident Helpline at 1-833-457-5463 (1-833-HLP-LINE).
  • Seek legal advice and resources through the Antisemitism Legal Helpline at 778-800-8917 or by email.

Our Jewish community remains resilient, prepared and proud—we will not be deterred by those who seek to spread fear.

Sincerely,
