Yom Hashoah, also known as Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day is an international day of commemoration on which the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, between 1933 and 1945, are memorialized. It is a solemn day, beginning at sunset on the 27th of the month of Nisan and ending the following evening, according to the traditional Jewish custom of marking a day. It signifies the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, which was the largest, symbolically most important Jewish uprising and the first urban uprising in German-occupied Europe.

Through the annual Yom HaShoah event, the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre seeks to commemorate the Holocaust’s tragic history and to reflect on the lessons it holds for our lives today. Attendees gather to remember the rescuers who risked their lives to save others during the Holocaust and those who liberated the concentration camps, whilst also honouring the Holocaust survivors in our community.

The program features performances, speakers and prayers. Details for this year will be announced soon.
