June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Did you know that an average of 7.5% of Canadians 55 and older have experienced abuse? To learn more about elder abuse, how to recognize the signs and how to combat it, please attend the Rights Don’t Get Old event on June 15, 2023. This event is co-sponsored with JFS, Better at Home, the Jewish Community Centre of Great Vancouver, the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver and Seniors First BC.

Featured speakers include: MLA Michael Lee; BC Seniors Advocate Isobel Mackenzie and Seniors First BC speaker Linda Yauk.

There will also be tables to browse containing local resources on how to combat elder abuse including tables from: Kerrisdale Oakridge Marpole Community Policing Centre, ReAct Adult Protection Program (part of Vancouver Coastal Health), JQT, Seniors First BC, Adult Day Centres, the Jewish Community Centre, Better at Home, South Vancouver Seniors Network, Alzheimer Society of BC and Marpole Oakridge Family Place among others. Refreshments will be served.
