One in forty! Did you know? This is the risk of carrying genes that dramatically increase the chances of developing breast, ovarian, prostate, pancreatic cancer and melanoma for people of European Jewish descent (Ashkenazi).
Jewish descendants are 10 times more likely to carry these genes than the general population but almost half of Jewish carriers never get tested because they have little or no known family history of cancer. While more is known about how these genes affect women, men also carry these genes and are at risk of developing serious and aggressive cancers and dying prematurely. Even if male carriers never develop cancer they can still pass on these genes to their children.
