Leonard Cohen made extensive and brilliant use of symbols and images from the Hebrew Bible and Jewish spiritual literature in his songs. We'll go through the lyrics to three songs and discuss the riches to be found there upon close reading.

Matthew Gindin is a journalist and educator and is the Education Director at the Peretz Centre. He has led classes on Cohen's use of Biblical symbolism for the past few years, and is currently writing a book about Cohen's spiritual life. This is the second class in this year's lecture series, Radical Readings.
