A Tribute to Leonard Cohen

The Jewish Community of Greater is organizing a Tribute to Leonard Cohen, (1934-2016) on Sunday, December 11, 2016. Linda Lando, who represented “Leonard Cohen Artworks” for the past eight years, has pulled together a beautiful commemoration to mark the passing of the Canadian legend.

22 works of art by Leonard Cohen will be on exhibit in the Sidney and Gertrude Zack Gallery. The show features high quality limited edition prints, with Cohen's embossed seal on each one. The exhibition comes courtesy of Yosef Wosk. The Gallery will be open for viewing from 2:00 pm- 9:00pm.

A program honouring Leonard Cohen will be held at 5:00 pm in the Wosk Auditorium. The evening will feature Ira Nadel with a presentation entitled “Days and Nights with Leonard”. Ira B. Nadel (BA, MA Rutgers; PhD Cornell), Professor of English, specializes in biography. He is the author of Leonard Cohen, A Life in Art (1994), Various Positions, A Life of Leonard Cohen (1996; 2006).

Matthew Gindin is a freelance journalist, writer and lecturer; he will be presenting a talk on Cohen and Jewish Spirituality. Members from Pandora’s Collective, a group of writers of all ages who promote the literary arts as a healthy tool for self-expression will read a selection of Leonard Cohen’s poetry and Boogie Street will end the evening with Leonard’s beautiful music.

Cohen died in Los Angeles at age 82, and was buried in Montreal following a traditional Jewish service. December 11 marks the Shloshim (30 days after the burial) at which time it is customary to hold a memorial service is often held in memory of the deceased.
