Frequently Asked Questions:

What does it mean to become a volunteer?

When you join the Bitachon volunteering team, you will take an active role in safeguarding our community. You will be the “eyes and ears” for the community organization during the event or program and support the work of private security guards and/or local law enforcement. You will receive training to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to assist during events and programs in our community. You will also receive a certificate of completion when you finish the training. Along with the training process, you'll be required to undergo a police background check and pass an interview with the Jewish Federation's security personnel.

Do I need to pay to become a volunteer?

No, all training expenses will be covered by Jewish Federation and offered to our volunteers free of charge.

What is the training process?

The training process consists of 4 stages:

  1. Stop the Bleed - Online training, a tactical first aid training course focusing on controlling traumatic bleeds caused by gunshots, stabbing, and other mechanisms of injury. In order to receive the STB certificate, you need to participate in in-person Practical.
  2. Safety and Awareness- An online course is offered to our volunteers and can be completed in your own time and pace.
  3. Bitachon New Team Member Onboarding- In-person training covers techniques of de-escalating agitated people and calming interpersonal disputes while remaining tactically safe. Covering radio communications, Intro to Bitachon Organization, individual and team tactics, personal safety considerations, relationship to Police / Security, and Stop The Bleed Practical.
Please be aware that in order to participate in the in-person training, you must first complete the 2 online courses.
  4. Field Training Shift - The new volunteer is paired up with an experienced Bitachon member to work their first shift, where many of the concepts and skills taught in the classes will be reinforced and practiced in a real-world operational setting. This shift will be scheduled depending upon the availability of both the new volunteer and the experienced team member, and is the final preparatory stage before the volunteer can sign up for callouts and deploy to the field as part of a team.
