PJ Library Founder Visits Vancouver

We were delighted to welcome visionary philanthropist and PJ Library founder, Harold Grinspoon, to our community for a very special event.

Families from across the Lower Mainland gathered on the Victoria Day long weekend for a story time event with crafts and activities centered around the PJ Library book One Good Deed. Children decorated a thank-you card for Harold with stickers and drawings. Harriet Frost led a family sing along, and Will Stroet surprised everyone by performing a customized version of his song, Reading Revival, with Jewish themed lyrics.

PJ Library (PJ for Pajamas) isn’t a library you visit; it comes to you. Knowing that families read together in the quiet moments before bedtime, when kids are in their PJs and getting ready for sleep, Harold was inspired to create this program when he thought, "Why not make these moments Jewish moments?”

PJ Library offers free, high-quality, age-appropriate Jewish children’s books and music to families on a monthly basis - no strings attached - and hosts local family story time events on a regular basis. The program is open to children aged six months to eight years old.

PJ Library receives support from the Federation Annual Campaign and special gifts from Jewish Federation donors.

Here's a snapshot of our work so far:

  • 1,200 local children have received books since 2010
  • 745 local children currently receive books every month
  • Expanded to include children from six months old through age eight
  • More than 12 family events a year, many in the regional communities
