Federation Annual Campaign: Strengthening Jewish Identity, Enriching Community Life

Vancouver is a beautiful place to live, but, as we all know, it is also very expensive. Our Jewish community is feeling the impact.

Nearly half of our community members now live outside the City of Vancouver, beyond the reach of most of our community institutions. Many of them are struggling to connect to Jewish life and the community support systems they need. Many are unable to access Jewish programs and services – from the Jewish Food Bank to day camps and schools. Those who live more centrally are closer to the centres of Jewish life, but the high cost of living means many of them cannot afford to participate in Jewish programs.

The Federation Annual Campaign aims to change that.

Jewish Federation and our 37 partner agencies are committed to creating new pathways to connect individuals and families to Jewish life. What does this look like?

New Jewish Education Programs

  • With our community now so spread out, there are more than 850 children in underserved areas who aren’t currently receiving any Jewish education. New programs that reach them where they live is critical to their community involvement. Funding is needed so Jewish education providers can implement innovative approaches to how Jewish education is delivered in these communities.

Breaking Down Barriers

  • Participating in Jewish programs is an important way many individuals and feel connected to the Jewish community. Often, it is their only means of connection, yet many struggle to afford to enroll themselves and their children. The Federation Annual Campaign already funds more than 120 subsidies, but the need is growing, and increased funding is required just to keep up.

Your gift also secures a future where everyone feels safe.

Jewish Federation has been very proactive over the years when it comes to community security – from facilitating security audits, to providing security grants, to helping organizations access matching government funds for upgrades. With the changing global environment, our community institutions are more vulnerable. There is now a a need for ongoing security training, for an increased security presence at high-traffic institutions, and for emergency preparedness planning. This year, when donors increase their campaign gifts, we will be able to fund security measures at our community’s most well-used institutions, so everyone feels safe participating in Jewish life.
