Join us for a special experience. Following Havdalah, we will move into an evening of study in honour of our reception of Torah at Sinai. Savouries and sweets will be served between sessions. Please bring along a dairy/vegetarian potluck contribution.

Study will focus on:

1. Gloria Levi, Deborah R G, Pam Atnikov, Miriam Caplan, Bat Ami Segal, Dael Adams Segal, and Shira Macklin on Conscious Community, by the Piesetzner Rebbe. Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Schapira was a 20th Century Chassidic master who perished in the Warsaw Ghetto. Schapira’s book is a treatise on the art of creating and maintaining spiritual community, an invaluable resource for contemporary seekers. This presentation will culminate a year’s study by members of our community. Their presentation to us will include the rebbe’s thoughts on ego vs. authority, and the authentic self vs. community pressures.

2. Rabbi Hannah on Written Torah and Oral Torah: A Conversation Between Intimates, in a Language of Love, text study of a teaching by the Sfat Emet, Rabbi Yehuda Leib Alter of Ger, written in 1874. In anticipation of God’s revelatory speech act at Sinai, the rebbe explores the quality of God’s utterances, which we encounter as both Creation and Commandments. This revolutionary text empowers the Sfat Emet’s students, and us, to re-write Torah in every generation.
