An Enhanced Program for Adults
On March of the Living you will join thousands of Jews from around the world for a once-in-a-lifetime experience as you march three kilometers from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp complex built by the Nazis during World War II. The adult delegations travel separately from the teen and young adult delegations, but you will march together. Past participants of March of the Living often describe the two weeks they spent in Poland and Israel as one of the most significant experiences of their lives.

New for this year are components geared toward children and families of Holocaust survivors. While the new content is not exclusive to these families, we recognize that many people are eager to learn about and document their family members’ history so they can share it both within and beyond their own family. There will be opportunities for education to this effect, and additional details will be provided in the coming months.

March of the Living Overview
The program starts in Poland and includes visits to concentration camps, as well as cities, towns and villages that were once vibrant centers of Jewish life and learning. The March itself takes place on Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), which was established in memory of the six million Jews who were murdered during the war. Together with participants from more than thirty countries you will walk the three kilometres from Auschwitz to Birkenau in silent tribute to all victims of the Holocaust. Yet even in Poland there are moments of hope, like the opportunity to connect with a new generation of Polish Jews who are committed to keeping Judaism alive in Poland.

Then it’s on to Israel (optional) where you will spend the next week connecting with your Jewish roots as you visit exciting places and ancient sites like Jerusalem, Masada and Tel Aviv, and take part in special events for March of the Living participants. You will stand in solidarity with the entire country to observe Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Remembrance Day, and the next evening you will celebrate Israel’s Independence Day, Yom Ha’atzmaut.
